Kape Komunidad Kamp

Lost Islands Center for Kape (LICK) is excited to present Kape Komunidad Kamp, a unique coffee skills and sensory development bootcamp led by the esteemed Silvester Dan Samonte. This immersive experience will take place in the breathtaking Tuminugan Sanctuary, Bukidnon, and will be divided into two parts:

  • March 31 – April 5: Professionals’ Retreat – A deep dive into advanced coffee skills for industry professionals.

  • April 7 – 10: Bukidnon Youth Camp – A knowledge-sharing camp where professionals mentor young participants (high school students up to 30 years old).

A Journey Through Coffee, Culture, and Community

Each day of Kape Kamp will explore a different theme, designed to refine sensory skills and deepen the understanding of Philippine coffee. The schedule includes:

  • Day 1: Introduction to Coffee – Understanding coffee origins, production, and its significance.

  • Day 2: Sensory Skills Sharpening for Coffee – Developing taste, aroma, and texture recognition.

  • Day 3: Brewing and Roasting 101 (Fundamental) – Learning the basics of coffee roasting and brewing techniques.

  • Day 4: Brewing and Roasting 102 (Practical) – Hands-on practice in roasting and brewing.

  • Day 5: Brewing and Roasting 102 (Practical) – Further refinement of brewing and roasting skills.

  • Day 6: Production Cupping, Brewing Presentation, Farm Visit, and Tree Planting – Culminating activities to apply knowledge, explore coffee farms, and contribute to sustainability efforts.

Exciting Culmination: Musikalawaig 12 Festival

The most exciting part of Kape Kamp (youth leg) is its grand culmination, the Musikalawaig 12 Festival! Taking place on April 11 and 12 at the Ki Bathala Gardens in Bukidnon, this festival is a musical journey through different eras and genres, featuring some of the most talented artists in the Philippines.

Youth participants will also have the incredible opportunity to compete in roasting and brewing challenges and even work at the coffee bar during the festival, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
